Charred Remains: Sure Fire Scares

Charred Remains from Mad Cave Studios is a spooky look at fire trauma. With the FOC on November 20, you won’t want to miss the release on December 13.

Charred Remains: Don’t Ignore The Cause

Show’s End‘s Anthony Cleveland returns with a web of intrigue and suspense. For example, the lead character Amy Durant’s traumatic past is juxtaposed with a firefighter’s hallucinations. Their respective perspectives and experiences give a suspenseful link into something far more sinister. Adding to that is an arsonist haunting a recovery camp for burn victims leading to the emergence of what ties it all together. The demonic entity that killed Amy’s family, the Fire Man.

But with only the first issue, that’s it. With all of this set-up there isn’t much depth, just its potential. Like how the psychological impact of fire-related traumas can lead to some character development between people. It could even give readers something to think about when it comes to what the Fire Man’s motivations are.

It Leaves A Mark

Andrea Mutti never misses a chance to create an atmospheric experience. The way he colors pages with yellows and reds often display important plot points. Some like the first appearance of the Fire Man evoke a mix of feelings. The face reflected in a firefighter’s visor projects an image that leaves people speechless. But the fact that reader’s only see the firefighter’s reaction to what looks like an immolated man suggests something else. That maybe that this is just the grief stricken Amy throwing her fear onto something trying to help her. The eery smoke in yellow and greens make it look like the Fire Man has consumed the firefighter.

Examine These Charred Remains

Charred Remains looks like it’s going to need more time to leave an impact. There’s potential brimming with character dynamics, psychological thrills, and a deadly villain. But so far we just have the base ingredients, not a proper plot. So for now I’m going to have to give this 7/10.

Thanks for coming to the end and as always remember to look between the panels.
